Easily
accessible in good weather. Turn on road to Liberty Post Office, and
continue up Frog Creek about ½ mile to where the road forks to the right
across the creek. Just across the creek, there is a double driveway on
the left, one portion of it leading up to the top of the knoll (the other
leading around to the back of the knoll to a private residence). There is a
good, solid area to park and turn around at the top of the knoll by the
cemetery. The driveway could be a little rutted after a heavy rain,
and would be a steep drive to navigate in snow & ice.

Comments:
Dates in Red
are not inscribed on the tombstone and have either been calculated based on
death date or are as a result of research on the individual by WVCPA or by
family researchers who have contributed their findings to be posted on this
web page.
This is a pretty little cemetery, located on a
knoll overlooking the hollow just east of the Liberty post office in Putnam
County. It is in very well-maintained condition, though a couple of the
shrubs on the graves have grown far beyond being decorative and have engulfed
the tombstone near where they're planted. This makes it very difficult
to read, and even identify the location, of a couple of the tombstones.
This led to the classification of "good", rather than
"excellent" above.
According to information provided by Levisa
Smith Asbury's great-granddaughter LaRue, the cemetery was established by
Levisa in the late 1800's, and that currently (per April 2006) the family of
Robert and Lora May Harrison's daughter Retha are keeping up the
cemetery. She confirms that there are many unidentified graves in the
cemetery, (incidentally many of these now marked by small markers with praying
hands engraved on them, though some still have only fieldstones). She says she
was told as a child that those were babies graves - stillborn, died shortly
after birth, etc.
[*above
indicates that there was no tombstone found in June 2004 - listed information
from "Putnam
County Cemetery Inscriptions", Upper Vandalia Historical Society]
