Our Mission

The West Virginia Cemetery Preservation Association will work to document, gather information, increase public awareness, raise funds, organize projects, and network with other organizations and tradesmen to preserve, protect, and maintain our historical cemeteries and churches in West Virginia.

We will document these historic landmarks and make them available to all on the internet, thus making a contribution to the families by giving them instant access and helping to increase public awareness of the plight of these sites, those that are well cared for as well as those that are abandoned, neglected, or vandalized. We will also disseminate information to educate and increase public awareness among all of the citizens of West Virginia.

We will network with other organizations and tradesmen to help clean up, maintain, and restore the grounds, monuments, artwork, and history of these precious historical sites.

We will raise funds both privately and publicly through personal contributions and government grants in order to accomplish these goals.

To aid in the accomplishment of this mission, WVCPA maintains memberships in the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the Upper Vandalia Historical Society of Putnam Co., WV, and the Buffalo Historical Society of Buffalo, WV.

To help us in this mission, please mail your tax-deductible contributions to WVCPA, P.O. Box 131, Leon, WV 25123, or email us at for further information about making financial gifts to this organization.
