Dates in Red
are not inscribed on the tombstone and have either been calculated based on
death date or are as a result of research on the individual.
Sherry writes:
"Wm. "Bub" Wray Cemetery
could be easy access even with a cane. You pull in near the log cabin house
and the land goes up a slight incline to the cemetery. It is within 25 feet
of the road but because it's on a hill you can't see it from the road
level."
Our thanks to Sherry for sharing this treasured
photo with us, and allowing us to post it on this page for posterity!
Notes on the entries from "Mason Co.,
W.VA. Cemetery Inscriptions":
The burials marked "dispute" involved in a story heard in the
mid-1960s "that when State Road made a slight change on the road to cut
out small curve, some caskets fell into road and were reburied".
Also noted is the name variance for this cemetery: "It is possible that
this cemetery is also known as [the "Bub" Wray Cemetery], as it had
no monuments, so the story goes. Said to have been in the bend of a road
before Barton Chapel. This could be probable location as well as very
near the Cartt cemetery."
