Condition of cemetery**:

Accessibility:
This
cemetery is located on a knoll overlooking Mud Lick and the first
farm after you pass Elmwood going up Tribble Road towards Tribble and
Warner Chapel in Union District. There is a ford across Mud Lick
at that farm (the McDermitt farm per 2004), and a rough tractor path
going up the hill to the left. The cemetery is on the left as
you come to the flat area at the top of the hill, where a gas well is
now located. Access is best done on foot, parking your vehicle out at
Tribble Road at the McDermitt place (only by permission, of course),
as the ford can be extremely deep in mud for a vehicle with all the
rain that WV has been having recently. We crossed it fine on foot, and
the Mud Lick was only inches deep at that time. Keep in mind
that the creek can run very deep after a rain, so plan your visit
according to the weather and after a fairly dry spell. Out of
courtesy, please be sure to ask permission of Mr. McDermitt before
crossing his land or parking on it.

Comments:
Dates
in Red are not inscribed on the
tombstone and have either been calculated based on death date or are as a
result of research on the individual.
In
the 1960's-70's, there were twenty-five marked graves in this cemetery,
with many more possible though not marked. This is a very old
cemetery in the area, with burials possible from the early 1800's, based
on the settlement in the area at the time. Even at the last survey of it
in the late 1960's/early 1970's, it was quite deteriorated with age.
Anyone with family records indicating that their family members were
buried in this cemetery (family Bible or similar)? If so, do let us know
and we will add those family members' names here, as there are certainly
many more burials than we've been able to list here.
