From "Mason Co.,
W.Va. Cemetery Inscriptions":
"Two unusual stones, a tree with two branches, tree with four
branches near Foreman but no dates or names" In email from Bill Daugherty to WVCPA: "If you look carefully there are marker plaques on the base of the biggest stone tree. Buried on the sides of center line between these stone trees are my great grandfather and my great grandmother... Orville was a stone mason, he carved the stone trees and declared that they would be used to mark his grave, and so they were." |

Group of four stones. On two of the stones there were only a couple of letters you could make out. It almost looks like the information fell off of the marker. Or maybe chipped away. Photo 102 is the closest stone. If you zoom in, you can see only a few letters. Believed to be old Moody family stones, Image 102 reportedly once had "Moody" clearly inscribed |

Giles Family Graves: | |
Located
on the upper side of the Greer Cemetery are at least 11 graves (as
identified in the 1973 reading of this cemetery) belonging primarily to
the Giles Family, a local African American family in the late
1800's/early 1900's. Those identified in the 1973 reading by
Violette Machir are listed above. Additional notes from an email
from family researcher Bill Daugherty regarding the note in Mason Co.,
W.Va. Cemetery Inscriptions for this cemetery: "As
long as I can remember the Giles Graves have been “inside” the
fence. There is a large area at the upper side of the cemetery set
aside where new graves are not dug because no one knows exactly where
the Giles Graves are located." |
