Image06       [Not certain whose marker this is - it looks like it says the 28th of something as the death date. If so, it could be Rosa Graham or Eva Greenlee's marker. It was too overgrown to get closer to clear - this photo was taken on a zoom setting to get as close as possible] Click for photo of tombstone Source: WVCPA volunteer reading of the cemetery

Dates in Red are not inscribed on the tombstone and have either been calculated based on death date or are as a result of research on the individual.

Of historical note for the area, it has been recorded that Lewis Greenlee, along with his contemporary Rev. William Getchell, founded the nearby Wolfe Valley Baptist Church in 1852. The congregation thrives to this day, and is the home church of the founders of WVCPA, Joel and Donna Duprey. It is partly because of this relationship with the congregation, and out of respect for one of it's founding fathers, that WVCPA is especially dedicated to doing everything possible to bring this cemetery back from the clutches of neglect.

Per this writing in October of 2006, this cemetery is sorely in need of some tender loving care - the briars are thick and the trees are growing larger year by year, but certainly clearable with the right equipment, some thick leather gloves and dogged determination! WVCPA research has found that nearly all of the persons buried here are related to Lewis Greenlee or Clark Greenlee, though we have yet to understand all of the relationships (even that between Lewis and Clark Greenlee, if there is a familial connection).  We have fair expertise with the Kimberling, Pickens and Higginbotham family members buried here, but our knowledge of the Greenlee, Grimm and Thomas families is not complete.  Are there any family researchers out there that can help us clarify the identities of those buried here in Greenlee Cemetery? Email us!

More photos are hoped to be taken after the cemetery is cleaned up - many of the stones were just too blocked by the briars to get close enough to photograph.
