Comments:

Dates in Red are not inscribed on the tombstone and have either been calculated based on death date or are as a result of research on the individual.

Many of the photos of tombstones in this cemetery have been provided by Craig family researcher, Ron Craig. Our thanks to him for all his hard work and interest in sharing the photos with other researchers and family members across the country via this WVCPA page.

The inscription information presented above has been compared with a reading done in 1971 by Juanita Burdette, and where questions arose, the data from her earlier reading (as published in "Mason County W.Va. Cemetery Inscriptions" Vol. III) are printed here. Higginbotham inscription information gathered and presented here has been compared with that presented on family researcher William Morris Higginbotham's Craig Cemetery page. We encourage viewers of this page to consult these two valuable resources for further information on this cemetery.

There are many tombstones in this cemetery that are illegible, and have been for many years.  The names listed above correspond to stones that are legible, and therefore an incomplete list of all the burials in this cemetery.  If you have evidence of someone buried in this cemetery not indicated above, please let WVCPA know, including your source of such information, and we will gladly add them to the above listing of interments. If you believe they should be included under the "Probable Burials" category, please indicate such when you contact us.

Updates 1/10/2006: Local researcher, Teresa Bonecutter, has provided us with a number of corrections and additions to the list above - of particular note is the removal of Calvin and Beulah Craig from the list for Craig Cemetery, as she reports that they are actually buried in Buffalo. There are quite of a few corrections of birth and death dates from our initial list, which had been taken primarily from the "Mason County, W.Va. Cemetery Inscriptions" books, which again emphasizes the importance of doing thorough research and not just trusting in what has been published in years past. Our sincere thank-you's to Teresa, her aunt Barbara Mills, Carolyn Miller, and Holly King who have provided us with these updates.
