Barton Chapel United Methodist Church, now a non-denominational church, was founded in 1892. It was built on land given by Samuel Lawrence Carroll and Sarah D. Hanley Carroll to Alvin Adam Shank, Franklin D. Young, George Wears, John Lewis Steele, and John Riley Tanner, the trustees for the church whose first pastor was the Rev. E. D. Barton.

The church remains an active part of the community and holds services Sundays at 10:00 A.M. and 6:00 P.M. and Wednesdays at 7:00 P.M.

Our sincere thanks to Katie Litchfield for providing the photos and information for this page.
