Cemetery Name: |
Barnette |
|
County: | Jackson | |
USGS Quad: | Elmwood | |
Coordinates: | 38.7150ºN 81.7860ºW
Maintained by: | Marshall & Judy Casto
Land owner: | Unknown | |
Date added to WVCPA register: | April 2004
Condition of cemetery**: | Excellent (April 2004)
Accessibility: | This cemetery is located on a knoll overlooking Rockcastle and the bridge that crosses Thirteenmile Creek for the road that climbs up to Mt. Olive Church and cemetery on Cain Ridge. At our last visit, the road up to Barnette Cemetery was pretty rough - not passable for anything less than a jeep or 4x4 with good clearance. However, it is just a short stroll up the hillside to the cemetery from the roadside. It can be muddy in the lower portion of the road in rainy weather.

Comments: | Dates in Red are not inscribed on the tombstone and have either been calculated based on death date or are as a result of research on the individual. There are a number of graves with no markers in this cemetery. WVCPA will be visiting this cemetery again in the future to work on plot diagrams and do foil rubbings on the more difficult to read stones in hopes of positively identifying them. |
